Er war ein französischer Maler,

Bei seiner Malerei war viel eigenwilliges und unbeholfenes zu sehen,
wie zum Beispiel eine verzerrte Perspektive,
oder andere Abweichungen von der Norm.
Obwohl seine Bilder immer gegenständlich blieben,
gelang es ihm eine Konzeption von Malerei zu formulieren,
welche die Abhängigkeit des gemalten Motivs
von seinem Vorbild in der Wirklichkeit entbindet.
Sein Credo war, dass Kunst und Natur zwei nebeneinander existierende
und somit gleichberechtigte Harmonien sind.
