Anlässlich des 75. Geburtstags von Georg Baselitz,
widmete das Sammlerpaar Essl
dem großen deutschen Künstler eine Werkschau.
Georg Baselitz ist einer der wichtigsten Künstler der Nachkriegsgeneration in Deutschland, der die figurative Malerei weiterentwickelt hat.
Typisch sind nicht nur die Umkehrung der Motive,
sondern auch der Versuch die Objekte im Bild aufzulösen.
Es sind wirklich viele unterschiedliche Werke von ihm zu sehen
und man bekommt einen guten Einblick in seine Arbeiten.

Baselitz möchte hier vom Objekt ablenken
und das erreicht er durch diesen rot/gelben Bereich,
der den Blick des Betrachters richtig anzieht.

Baselitz hat viele "Heldenbilder" gemalt,
aber in seinen Werken wirken die Helden nicht stark und heldenhaft,
sondern so, als würden sie sich auflösen und wären ganz schwach.
Auf diesem Bild sieht man es sehr gut,
denn der Held hat den Kopf gesenkt und dadurch wirkt er als wäre er besiegt.
Der Oberkörper wirkt zwar noch stark, wegen dem dicken Hals,
aber wenn man dann auf die Beine hinunter schaut,
dann sieht man wie sich der Held richtig auflöst.
(Baselitz painted many "hero images"
but in his works, the heroes do not act strong and heroic.
They act as if they disappear and would be quite weak.
In this picture you can see it very well,
because the hero has his head down and thus he acts as if he would be defeated.
The upper body has still strength, because of the thick neck,
but when you look down at his feet,
you see how the hero resolves properly.)

Was auch noch sehr typisch für Baselitz ist, sind die Spuren auf dem Gemälde.
Farbklekse und Spuren von abgesetzten Farbeimer,
gehören laut Baselitz mit zu dem Bild und sollten nicht verdeckt werden.
Man sieht es auf diesem Bild besonders gut. Hier ist Marcel Duchamp dargestellt,
der sich gerade der Liebe hingibt.
(What is also very typical of Baselitz,
are the traces of the painting process.
Blob of paint and traces of contrasting paint buckets
belong to the painting and should not be blocked.
You can see it in this picture very well. Marcel Duchamp is shown here,

the collector couple Essl devoted
this great German artist a showcase.
Georg Baselitz is one of the most important artists of the postwar generation in Germany, who has developed a figurative painting.
Typically are not only the reverse of the motivs
but also an attempt to resolve the objects in the image.
